Description:  Static Shock is an animated superhero series about Virgil Hawkins, a Black teenager who gains electromagnetic powers after a gang rumble involving a chemical explosion. He becomes the superhero "Static," using his abilities to fight crime and injustice in his city, Dakota, with the help of his best friend, Richie Foley, who later becomes the hero Gear. The show was produced by Warner Bros. Animation and initially aired on Kids' WB from 2000 to 2004, becoming the first series to feature an African-American lead superhero in its own show.

Origin Story: Virgil gains his powers during a gang confrontation where a police tear gas attack triggers explosions in a chemical storage yard, an event referred to as the "Bang Baby Incident".
