Description:  Extreme Ghostbusters is a 1997 animated series that is a sequel to The Real Ghostbusters, where original Ghostbuster Egon Spengler recruits four college students—Eduardo, Kylie, Garrett, and Roland—to form a new team after paranormal activity surges in New York City. The show features the new, diverse team using upgraded equipment while Egon returns to lead them, continuing the ghost-busting legacy with a slightly darker tone and more mature themes than the original.

A new generation: The series is a continuation of The Real Ghostbusters, set years after the original team disbanded. Egon Spengler becomes a college professor and has to recruit and train a new group of paranormal investigators when supernatural activity starts to rise again.

The new recruits: The new team consists of four university students who become the "Extreme" Ghostbusters. Eduardo Rivera: A cynical, laid-back Latino who often makes jokes. Kylie Griffin: A highly capable, gothic-style student interested in the occult. Garrett Miller: An adrenaline junkie in a wheelchair who is a natural athlete. Roland Jackson: A studious and technically gifted member who helps upgrade the team's equipment and Ecto-1.

Egon Spengler: The only original Ghostbuster who returns, he leads the new team from the old firehouse. He is assisted by Janine Melnitz, the original receptionist.

Slimer: The spectral mascot from the original series also makes appearances in Extreme Ghostbusters.
