Description:  Captain Simian & the Space Monkeys is a 1996 animated sci-fi series about a crew of intelligent, anthropomorphic monkeys from Earth who protect the universe from the evil Lord Nebula. The crew is led by Captain Simian, a chimpanzee who was enhanced by a mysterious, advanced alien race after being lost in space. He recruited a diverse team of fellow primates to help him battle Nebula and his cyborg henchman, Rhesus 2, in their ship, the Primate Avenger.

During the 1960s space race, a NASA chimpanzee named Charlie was launched into orbit, but his rocket went off course and drifted into deep space. After decades, he was discovered by a mysterious, highly advanced alien race known only as "The ' '" (their name is unpronounceable and unwriteable). Mistaking Charlie for Earth's dominant species, these aliens used an evolution machine to grant him high intelligence, speech, and a humanoid form. They gave him the title of Captain Charles "Chuck" Simian and a mission to defeat the universe-threatening Lord Nebula. Aboard his ship, the Primate Avenger, Captain Simian assembled a crew of other Earth primates, each evolved with unique skills and personalities:

Shao Lin: A wise golden monkey and martial arts expert who serves as first officer.

Spydor: A wisecracking, thieving spider monkey from New York City who handles communications.

Dr. Splitz/Splitzy: An orangutan with a split personality, alternating between a stuffy scientific genius and a southern-accented mechanic.

Gor-illa/Gor: A massive, naive gorilla whose evolution was incomplete after he broke the machine, leaving him with immense strength and a powerful "Gormungus" rage form when angered.
