The Addams Family
Description:
The Addams Family is an American animated sitcom adaptation of Charles Addams's single-panel cartoons, which aired as two distinct series produced by Hanna-Barbera. The cartoons depict a wealthy, eccentric family who delight in the macabre and the grotesque and are generally unaware that others find them bizarre.
The humor derives from their positive, good-natured reactions to things the "normal" world finds horrifying, and their confusion at the rest of the world's conventional tastes. Despite their spooky interests, they are a very close-knit, loving, and hospitable family.
The 1992 Animated Series: This second cartoon show, which ran on ABC from 1992 to 1993, was developed in the wake of the successful 1991 live-action feature film. This version saw the family return to their ancestral home in the fictional town of Happydale Heights and dealt with more traditional Saturday morning cartoon plotlines. Many episodes featured the family dealing with their next-door neighbors, the Normanmeyers, who despised the Addamses' lifestyle and tried to run them out of town.
The main characters across both cartoon series generally include: Gomez Addams: The enthusiastic, wealthy patriarch who is passionately in love with his wife. Morticia Addams: The elegant, aloof, and gothic matriarch of the family. Wednesday Addams: The daughter, known for her pale demeanor, dark interests, and dry wit. Pugsley Addams: The son, a charming boy who enjoys being "tortured" by his sister. Uncle Fester: The bald, eccentric uncle with a childlike presence and the ability to conduct electricity. Grandmama: The kooky, potion-brewing grandmother. Lurch: The towering, groaning butler.
