Pole Position
Description:
Pole Position is a 1984 American animated series about three siblings, Dan, Tess, and Daisy Darrett, who run a stunt car show that secretly serves as a front for a government-sponsored crime-fighting organization. The show features the siblings, their uncle Zack, and their two talking cars, Roadie and Wheels, as they fight crime using high-tech gadgets. It was created by DIC Enterprises and loosely based on the popular arcade game of the same name.
Premise: After their parents, who were part of a secret crime-fighting organization, disappear, the Darrett siblings inherit their "Pole Position Stunt Show" and their parents' work. Their uncle, Dr. Zachary Darrett, helps them continue the mission, and the show becomes their cover for taking down villains.
Characters: Tess Darrett: The older sister and leader, who drives the car named Wheels. Dan Darrett: The hot-headed younger brother who drives the car named Roadie. Daisy Darrett: The youngest sister, who is accompanied by her pet, Kuma, a genetically engineered raccoon-monkey hybrid. Uncle Zack: The kids' uncle, an engineer who runs the operation and helps develop the vehicles. Wheels: Tess's red and black 1965 Mustang, equipped with advanced AI. Roadie: Dan's futuristic, light-blue coupe with an AI computer.
Production: The series was produced by DIC Enterprises and licensed the name from the Namco arcade game, though the two have little in common. The animation was handled by Japanese studios like MK Company and Artmic.
