Description:  Jem and the Holograms is an American animated series from the 1980s about a young woman named Jerrica Benton who leads a double life as the glamorous rock star Jem. To become Jem, she uses a supercomputer named Synergy and a pair of star-shaped earrings to transform her appearance. She leads a band called The Holograms while simultaneously running her father's record company and a foster home, often clashing with the rival, villainous band The Misfits.

Main characters and plot: Jerrica Benton/Jem: A shy but kind-hearted young woman who inherits her father's record company and a foster home for girls, the Starlight House. She uses the holographic computer Synergy to become the famous pop star Jem, a persona she uses to save the foster home and fight business rivals. The Holograms: Jem's bandmates and close friends, which include her sister Kimber Benton, as well as Aja and Shana.

The Misfits: A rival all-girl rock band whose members are Pizzazz, Roxy, and Stormer. They are often involved in schemes to sabotage Jem and the Holograms, orchestrated by their manager. Rio Pacheco: A man who is involved in a love triangle with both Jerrica and Jem, completely unaware they are the same person.

Synergy: A sentient holographic computer that was created by Jerrica's father. Synergy projects the holograms and allows Jerrica to transform into Jem.

Show themes and production: Themes: The show explored themes of identity, corporate intrigue, romance, and social issues. The series was created by Christy Marx and produced by Hasbro, Sunbow Productions, and Marvel Productions. It ran for 65 episodes over three seasons from 1985 to 1988.
