The Thing
Description:
The Thing, whose real name is Benjamin Jacob "Ben" Grimm, is a founding member of the Marvel Comics superhero team the Fantastic Four. He is known for his unique appearance as a hulking, muscular humanoid covered in orange, rock-like skin, and his iconic battle cry, "It's clobberin' time!".
Rocky Form: Ben Grimm's body is composed of a hyperdense, orange, flexible, rock-like hide, which makes him incredibly durable and heavy.
Physical Stature: He is significantly taller and heavier than a normal human, typically standing at 6'6" (1.98 m) and weighing around 500 lbs.
Distinctive Features: He has blue eyes and no visible outer ear structure or hair on his rock form. His hands and feet each have only four digits (three fingers and an opposable thumb).
Attire: He usually wears the distinctive blue and white uniform featuring the Fantastic Four logo, often just the shorts and boots portion.
Personality and Background. Tough but Kind-Hearted: Despite a gruff, streetwise exterior and a temper, Ben has a heart of gold and is a fiercely loyal friend and "family man".
Origin Story: As an astronaut and former test pilot, he was exposed to cosmic rays during an unauthorized space flight with Reed Richards, Sue Storm, and Johnny Storm, which permanently transformed his appearance.
Internal Struggle: A key part of his character arc is his initial struggle with and self-pity over his monstrous appearance, often hoping Reed Richards would find a permanent cure. Over time, largely thanks to his relationship with the blind sculptor Alicia Masters, he came to accept his fate.
Humorous Demeanor: He uses sarcasm and wisecracks to cope with his situation, with a sense of humor often compared to comedian Jimmy Durante's speech patterns.
