Clue Club
Description:
Clue Club is a 1970s animated Hanna-Barbera series about four teenage detectives—Larry, Pepper, D.D., and Dottie—who solve mysteries with the help of their two talking bloodhounds, Woofer and Wimper. The show follows the familiar Scooby-Doo format of solving bizarre crimes, but incorporates more modern technology, with Dottie using a home computer to analyze clues. The dogs, Woofer and Wimper, talk to each other and the audience but not to the humans.
The team: Larry: The leader who usually interviews suspects and passes along findings. Pepper: A blonde detective who searches for clues, often with D.D.. D.D.: A bespectacled redhead who teams up with Pepper to search for clues. Dottie: The 13-year-old computer whiz who stays at the "clubhouse" to analyze clues with her computer and communicate with the others via a video link in their car. Woofer: A brash bloodhound who often accuses suspects without evidence. Wimper: A more down-to-earth basset hound who is Woofer's companion.
The plot: The show typically involves the team investigating crimes like jewel heists, disappearances, and vandalism, which leads to them being chased by villains before they solve the case. The local Sheriff often relies on the team for assistance.
The show's legacy: Clue Club was part of the trend of mystery cartoons in the 1970s, with the dogs' dialogue being a key comedic element. The show was a spin-off that was sometimes re-packaged as Woofer & Wimper, Dog Detectives.
