The Herculoids
Description:
The Herculoids is a Hanna-Barbera animated series about a space-faring barbarian family—Zandor, Tara, and their son Dorno—who defend their planet, Amzot (later renamed Quasar), from various technological invaders with the help of their powerful, reptilian, and amorphous-blob animal companions. The show is known for its sci-fi setting combined with primitive technology and its iconic, visually distinct monsters.
The Herculoids' cast and companions: Zandor: The leader of the family and planet. Tara: Zandor's wife. Dorno: Zandor and Tara's son. Zok: A dragon who can shoot laser rays. Igoo: A giant rock ape. Tundro: A six-legged, rhinoceros-like creature who can shoot energy balls from its horn. Gloop and Gleep: Two blobs that can change shape and stretch.
Setting: The series is set on the natural, prehistoric-style planet of Amzot/Quasar.
Conflict: The main conflict comes from frequent invasions by technologically advanced, malicious aliens and robots, whom the Herculoids fight.
Technology vs. nature: The show's heroes rely on their natural abilities and creature companions, while the villains rely on advanced technology, creating a central theme of nature versus technology.
Genre: While a science fiction series, it has a "sword and sorcery" feel due to the heroes' primitive lifestyle and abilities.
