Description:  King Leonardo and His Short Subjects is an American animated series about the well-meaning but inept lion King Leonardo of the fictional African nation of Bongo Congo. He is aided by his calm and competent skunk assistant, Odie O. Cologne, and is constantly thwarted in his plans to usurp the throne by his brother Itchy and the gangster Biggy Rat. The show also features other short segments, such as the private eye "The Hunter" and the naive "Tooter Turtle".

King Leonardo: A lion who is the king of Bongo Congo, but often clumsy and in need of help.

Odie O. Cologne: A skunk who is Leonardo's loyal, calm, and capable assistant, and the one who truly runs the kingdom.

Biggy Rat: A gangster rodent who is the main antagonist, constantly plotting to overthrow Leonardo.

Itchy Brother: Leonardo's brother who helps Biggy Rat, though he is not particularly intelligent.

Professor Messer: An evil German inventor who sometimes assists Biggy Rat.

The Hunter: A persistent but incompetent bloodhound detective who stars in one of the short segments.
